I’m going to Italy! And while I will be taking in the sights and being a bit of a tourist, I am primarily going to the Pordenone Silent Film Festival, one of the most celebrated gathering places in all the world for silent film junkies and experts. This dream has been in the making for several years and it is finally here!
The festival runs from October 5th to the 12th with seven days chock-full of rarely seen and well-loved classic silent films. I’ll be giving updates—probably at the halfway point and once it’s over—and letting you know my favorites and hidden gems. This year the festival has programs focused on Latin American silent cinema, D.W. Griffith short films restored through the Biograph Project, and plenty of silent films ripe for rediscovery.
Even if you’re not coming in person, you can buy a ticket to the online version of the Pordenone Silent Film Festival at the festival website. You get a rare or newly restored silent film every 24 hours to stream whenever for 30 euros! I’ve participated online for the past three years (since 2020) and it has been well worth it every time!
I’m excited for this adventure and hope to you all in person or online. Until then arrivederci!
